The Testut Family History

Charles Testut (1816 - 1892)

He was a French author and doctor. At a young age he moved to the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. After a devastating earthquake in 1843 he immigrated to New Orleans. 1 His wife's name was Louisa (b. 1824) but I have found very little information regarding her. They appear in the 1850 US Census as living in New Orleans. 2 For the 1860 US Census they are found in Hoboken, New Jersey but they are listed as John and Jane Testut. 3 I am confident these are the same people because the names and ages of the children match. Also, the ages of "John" and "Jane" match those of Charles and Louisa. In 1866 Charles Testut married Clementine Beziers in Hoboken, New Jersey. 4 This would indicate that Louisa passed away sometime between 1860 and 1866. Charles and Clementine had a child who died in infancy. They are listed in the 1870 US Census living in Brooklyn, NY.
